Skye Photographs
Skye Landscape Photography Workshops and Tuition

There are many advantages to taking Landscape images on Skye in the winter months.

  1. There are far less tourists
  2. The sunrise and sunsets (golden hours) are at sociable times
  3. There are no midges (hurrah!)
  4. There is more often than not snow on the mountain peaks
  5. The colour is dramatic
  6. Weather conditions make for more atmospheric images
  7. You might even get a night shot of the Aurora Borealis

With that in mind I am offering photographic holidays for 2 persons with dates ranging from October to April ( see available dates below)

Living here on Skye means I am familiar with some great locations. If you check out the galleries on this website you get an idea of the fabulous locations available pretty well on the doorstep.

Accommodation is in our cottage in Tarskavaig - one of the most picturesque villages in the UK.  A couple of years ago We began offering one of our rooms for bed and breakfast and that is the room we will be offering. It is a small twin room . You can see it here along with some of the Airbnb reviews that my wife Penny has been receiving from visitors all over the world.

All meals are included in the price. Transport to and from locations on Skye is provided if required.

Again if required I can offer basic tuition on digital camera function, using filters, composition and balance as well as processing techniques using Lightroom and Photoshop.

The holiday is very much tailored to what you want from it. The options and choices for Landscape Photography on Skye are huge.  If you have particular places in mind or are happy for me to choose a variety of locations for you all well and good. The below guide gives an idea of cost involved.

Further Info for Skye Photographic Workshops

Here at Burnbank Cottage Photographic you may choose to book in for one day (2 nights), two days (3 nights) or three days (4 nights) of Photographic tuition with Graham, either for one or a maximum of two people. Tuition is available from Monday to Friday inclusive (up to the 3 days) and availability includes Saturday morning departure. See the availability dates below. Available dates are in green and will turn red should you book.

All tuition is tailored to your needs and discussed and agreed before your arrival as our aim is to meet your personal needs and interests as closely as possible. Field trips are invaluable and we are able to take you to some of the most dramatic locations on Skye with the benefit of local knowledge regarding views and access.

It is important though that all excursions into the wild terrain are treated with wisdom and respect for the demands underfoot and your own personal fitness levels. It is always best to err on the side of caution.

Please ensure you are suitably kitted out with waterproof clothing and footwear and that all your photographic equipment is suitable for winter weather conditions. We can accept no liability for your belongings. Excursion plans may need to be changed or adjusted at short notice with regard to prevailing weather conditions

We are very blessed that Burnbank Cottage is our home here in Tarskavaig, south Skye, and we let out our guest room on a bed and breakfast basis throughout the year. Your accommodation is in a twin bedroom with two single beds and a compact en suite with shower. Your bedroom leads off our private guest sun porch where there is additional storage space and seating for two by a picture window looking across the meadow. For full details, guest reviews and photographs of the accommodation please refer to our Airbnb listing (just Google Burnbank Cottage, Tarskavaig, Airbnb) but as the photographic holidays are separate from the Airbnb listing please place booking requests for Burnbank Cottage Photographic directly with ourselves.  (See terms and conditions below)

Any additional nights you would like to book on a bed and breakfast only basis will depend on availability at the time of booking.

We realise that you may wish to book as a couple but that perhaps only one of you wishes to book tuition and this we can accommodate. Perhaps one of you only wishes to have tuition on one or two days. Please be aware that Tarskavaig is a relatively remote location and plan accordingly with regard to your transport needs – if needs be one person may accompany Graham in his vehicle to allow the other person to use their own car. There is no public transport service to Tarskavaig and you will need a vehicle to get to us. Full directions and location details are on the Airbnb listing for Burnbank Cottage as detailed above. For booking and availability of dates see the calendar below.

Menu Choices and Preferences for 2018

During your stay we provide breakfast, packed lunches (if required) and evening meals. Our catering is good home cooking with no pretensions of being a restaurant, and in the evenings everyone will be sharing the same prepared meal. I am delighted to meet any special dietary needs where I am able to and I provide a selection of evening meal menu options for you to circle your preferences from below. This menu will be sent as an email where you can circle as many as you like - the meals served during your stay will form those that everyone is happy with. On the E mail there is a space at the end of the selection for you to please state any ingredients you prefer not to eat or any special notes regarding your diet. Please note that we only have one modest supermarket to rely on and I will advise you in advance if there is any difficulty in sourcing anything e.g. none dairy milk or gluten free items.

Breakfast

Breakfast is a self-serve selection including the following;

Apple/orange juice, tea/coffee, fruit  salad, natural Greek style yogurt, muesli/granola/variety of cereals/porridge, choice of breads/crumpets/croissants/oat cakes, hard boiled eggs, selection of marmalades/preserves/honey.

Packed Lunch

Depending on the schedule for photography you may wish to take a packed lunch with you. We can provide the following;

2 filled rolls (with either cheddar cheese, egg mayonnaise or sliced ham, and a variety of chutneys/mustard), crisps, chocolate biscuit, apple, bottled water and a flask of soup to share.

Evening Meals

On the E mail you can circle your preferences from the following selection. Those with a ‘V’ are also available as a vegetarian option, in which case I substitute the meat or chicken with Quorn. If you would like an item but wish one ingredient removed (e.g. mushrooms in a sauce) please just add a note!

Chicken Chasseur  V  (chicken or Quorn casserole with a rich tomato, olive and mushroom sauce) served with steamed green beans, carrots and buttery mashed potato.

Stuffed Peppers with Roasted Vegetables    (a vegetarian meal of capsicum peppers stuffed with Moroccan style couscous topped with cheese and a variety of oven roasted vegetables such as potato, carrot, parsnip, aubergine, sweet potato, parsnip, red onion and garlic, and garlic/herb bread)
